nv6 AKS max pods and allocatable memory — quick answers
- How many pods can a nv6 run as a node with AKS 1.29+, Azure CNI Overlay? Up to 250; kubelet keeps 5150 MiB of memory and 160m CPU, leaving 50.97 GiB and 5.84 vCPU for pods.
- How many pods can a nv6 run as a node with AKS 1.29+, kubenet / CNI pod subnet? Up to 110; kubelet keeps 2350 MiB of memory and 160m CPU, leaving 53.71 GiB and 5.84 vCPU for pods.
- How many 500m / 1 GiB pods fit? 11 per node after DaemonSets; 1 nodes for 10 replicas, about $832.20/month on demand.
What kubelet reserves on nv6
| Setup | Max pods | kube-reserved CPU | Memory reserved + eviction | Allocatable CPU | Allocatable memory | Memory usable |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| AKS 1.29+, Azure CNI Overlay max pods 250 | 250 | 160m | 5050 Mi + 100 Mi | 5.84 | 50.97 GiB | 91.0% |
| AKS 1.29+, kubenet / CNI pod subnet max pods 110 | 110 | 160m | 2250 Mi + 100 Mi | 5.84 | 53.71 GiB | 95.9% |
How these numbers are computed: reservation formulas. Check a live node with kubectl describe node → Allocatable.
How many pods fit on one nv6
Assumes DaemonSets (CNI, kube-proxy, log and metrics agents) request 200m CPU, 300 Mi and 3 pods per node. Try your own numbers in the node calculator.
